The Embassy of India celebrates 9th International Day of Yoga

MUSCAT – The Embassy of India in Muscat, in association with the Indian School Muscat, hosted the celebration to mark the 9th International Day of Yoga on the theme’ Yoga for ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ on June 22, 2023. More than 2000 people from all walks of life, including Indian nationals, resident ambassadors, diplomatic and defence corps, and students from Indian Schools, participated in the event. As part of the celebrations a common yoga protocol was conducted.



The event marked the culmination of the “Oman Yoga Yatra,” which started in February 2023 to popularise the benefits of yoga throughout Oman and encourage its widespread adoption. “Oman Yoga Yatra” succeeded the Muscat Yog Mahotsav’ which featured 75 curated Yoga events across Oman – including the cities of Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, and Sur, for 75 days from April to June 2022.



A commemorative video, “Soulful Yoga Serene Oman,” jointly produced by the Embassy of India and Visit Oman, was launched on the eve of the International Day of Yoga. This visually captivating video showcased the picturesque landscapes of Oman, serving as a serene backdrop to the practice of yoga.



His Excellency Sheikh Humaid Al’Maani, Head of the Global Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, graced the event as the Chief Guest. His Excellencies’ presence added a significant touch of grandeur to the event, emphasizing the importance of yoga as a practice that unifies people across cultures and nations.



His Excellency Ambassador Amit Narang delivered the keynote address emphasising the transformative power of yoga in enriching lives and promoting a balanced and harmonious lifestyle. Ambassador also thanked all the participants, Yoga organisations, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this event.
