Social Development Ministry launches progress report on rights of persons with disabilities

SALALAH – A ceremony was ogranised by the Ministry of Social Development to launch the second report titled “Prospects for Implementing and Monitoring the Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities in GCC States”. The ceremony took place at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah today.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, stressed that the report would serve as a motive to upgrade efforts in favour of persons with disabilities in GCC states, with the prime objective of realising their full rights.



For his part, Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahrouqi, Head of the Directorate General of Persons with Disabilities, affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to promote programmes and services aimed at achieving the comprehensive inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.

Dr Amer Mohammed Al Hajri delivered the speech of the Executive Office for the Council of GCC Labour Ministers and the Council of GCC Social Affairs Ministers.

During the speech, Dr Amer stressed that the GCC states’ ratification of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities stems from a sincere desire to empower persons with disabilities and consolidate their rights.


The event included a dialogue session on the same report. It was run by Dr Mona Abduljawad, an expert in the field of the rights of persons with disabilities.
