June 17 declared the first day of Eid Al Adha

MUSCAT – The main moonsighting committee for the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH announced that the new crescent moon was not sighted and accordingly, Saturday, the June 8, 2024, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH and that June 17, 2024 will be the first day of Eid Al Adha.


This was unveiled in a statement issued by the committee, which convened this evening, June 6, 2024.


The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

The committee comprised the following: Sheikh Dr. Kahlan Nabhan Al Kharousi, Assistant to the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Eng. Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Ahmed Saleh Al Rashdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and three Supreme Court judges, who were Mohammed Salim Al Akhzami, Abdul Rahman Abdul Sattar Al Kamali and Mohammed Salim Al Nahdi.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extended its sincere greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying to the Almighty Allah to protect him and bless him with good health and wellbeing. The committee also expressed wishes of progress and prosperity for Omani citizens and all Muslims.
