MUSCAT – In line with its commitment to continuous participation in various events and activities in fields and sectors of national importance, Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, took part in the third edition of the International Bioethics Conference held recently at the Sultan Qaboos University. Held under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh AbdulMalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, the event was attended by several high-profile attendees including a number of their highnesses, excellencies, representatives from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Health Organization (WHO), leading scientists in the field, besides representatives from a number of ministries, government institutions and academic institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
During the event, His Excellency Sheikh AbdulMalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, presented an award of partnership to Saleh Mohammed Al Maaini, Deputy General Manager – Capital Regions, Bank Muscat.
The conference focused on highlighting and sharing the experiences of different countries in dealing with ethical issues during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, it discussed the importance of having ethical guidelines, allocation and distribution of scarce resources for the best interests of the community, the legal dilemmas of handling pandemic crises including the rights of the individual and the community in accepting or rejecting vaccination, and the application of technology, artificial intelligence and data-privacy related issues. The conference also discussed ethical obligations from a public health perspective and handling the post-pandemic return to normalcy.
Speaking on the occasion, Saleh Mohammed al Maaini, Deputy General Manager – Capital Regions, expressed his gratitude at being able to take part in the conference which discussed the repercussions and ethics of COVID-19 related measures. He pointed out how it touched various aspects of our lives as well as the ongoing initiative to develop legislative and regulatory policies in this regard at both the national and international levels. He said: “We are glad to participate in this very successful event.
