Oman Banks Association Academy organises Seminar on Commercial Companies Law and Personal Data Protection Law

Muscat – The Oman Banks Association Academy organised a seminar on the Commercial Companies Law and the Personal Data Protection Law. The seminar was held on 27th July 2022, at the Training Centre of First Abu Dhabi Bank in Muttrah Business District, and was attended by executives from a number of banks operating in the Sultanate of Oman.

The seminar was conducted by legal experts from Nasser Al Habsi and Saif Al Mamari Law Firm in association with Addleshaw Goddard. The seminar covered the key features of the Oman Commercial Companies Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 18/2019 and its accompanying Executive Regulations issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion under Ministerial Decision No. 146/2021.

The seminar also covered the key features of the Personal Data Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 6/2022. The seminar discussed matters ranging from the way in which ‘personal data’ can be interpreted under the law and the obligations arising under the law to protect such ‘personal data’, with a main focus on the applicability of the new Personal Data Protection Law to customer data held by the licensed banks in Oman.

The Oman Banks Association is a non-profit professional association created to represent the banking sector, promote Omani banking activities, coordinate with the regulators on matters of policy and strategy, and support banking excellence in Oman.
