MUSCAT — As the young, budding artists explored their talents in the middle of the room as part of the annual Summer of Arts programme by the ministry of culture, sports and youth (MCSY) at the Omani Society of Fine Arts (OSFA) premises, in a corner, Anwar Sonya, the Godfather of Modern Art in Oman, was at work, totally engrossed in his painting and away from the world.
The 78-year-old pioneering artist of Oman was doing what he knew best – painting. Content and within himself, Sonya, who is one of the foundational pillars of the Omani Art Movement, was immersed with the colourful world before him and oblivious of everything else.
