First day of Ramadhan 1445 AH falls on Tuesday, March 12

MUSCAT — The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs announced today that Tuesday, March 12, 2024 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadhan 1445 AH, due to the lack of confirmation this evening of sighting the crescent of the holy month. Therefore, tomorrow 11 March will be the completing day of the month of Shaaban.


This was unveiled in a statement reading as follows:

“The main moonsighting committee for Hijri months convened this evening, Sunday the 29th of Shaaban 1445 AH, corresponding to 10 March 2024, under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and membership of Sheikh Dr Kahlan Nabhan Al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Eng. Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior,  Ahmed Saleh Al Rashidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed Salim Al Akhzami, Judge at the Supreme Court, Sheikh Abdulrahman Abdulsattar Al Kamali, Judge at the Supreme Court and Sheikh Mohammed Salim Al Nahdi, Judge at the Supreme Court.


The Committee convened to receive reports about the sighting of the crescent that determines the beginning of the month of Ramadan for the year 1445 AH.

It should be noted that the committee did not receive any report about the sighting of the crescent, and, accordingly, Monday, March 11, 2024 will be the 30th day of the month of Shaaban 1445 AH and Tuesday, March 12, 2024 will be the first day of the month of Ramadan for the year 1445 AH.


On this noble occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs is honoured to extend its sincere greetings and blessings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying to the Almighty Allah to bring back this occasion at a time His Majesty the Sultan enjoys health and blessings.
