MUSCAT – The National Committee for Emergency Management held a meeting here today under the chairmanship of Gen. Hassan Mohsin Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, Chairman of the Committee.
The meeting reviewed the preparations undertaken to deal with the Tropical Cyclone “Tej”.
The committee was also briefed by experts from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on numerical readings and possible effects that can be caused by the tropical cyclone. Further, the committee highlighted precautionary measures undertaken in various sectors. The committee reiterated the sustainability of public services and the preparedness of shelters, as well as ensuring the availability of food and medical supplies.
Several decisions were taken, including the evacuation of residents from Al Hallaniyyat Islands and coastal areas in the Wilayat of Salalah, Rakhyut and Dhalkut.
Al Shuraiqi urged the committee’s members to take all necessary steps to support response operations and to provide all the required resources and capacities in all places that are expected to be affected by the tropical cyclone.
