IBRI — The “Depths of the Earth: A Journey into the World of Geology” exhibition was inaugurated at the Institute of Islamic Sciences in Ibri, an affiliate of Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science.
The exhibition aims to highlight the subject of geography through an interactive approach that enhances students’ understanding of earth sciences by showcasing the components of the geological environment and the processes of rock formation and transformation over time. The exhibition comprises nine main sections, beginning with the “Exhibition Identity” corner, which explains the general concept, sections, and the significance of the colors used. This is followed by specialized sections including the “Volcanoes” corner, which reviews primary rock sources, volcanic mechanisms, and types; the “Igneous Rocks” corner, focusing on rocks resulting from volcanic activity; and the “Sedimentary Rocks” corner, featuring rocks formed through erosion, weathering, and deposition.

Furthermore, the exhibition includes the “Fossils” corner, which showcases fossil specimens and their formation methods, alongside the “Metamorphic Rocks” corner, explaining types of transformation caused by heat, pressure, and solutions deep within the earth. It also features the “Rocks in Our Lives” corner, illustrating the various applications of rocks in everyday life.
The event includes a corner for simulating excavation processes, equipped with tools used in the field such as hammers, brushes, and compasses, in addition to a section for modern rock exploration technologies, displaying the use of drones and satellite models in geophysical surveys.
The organisation of this exhibition comes within the efforts to develop educational methods and enhance practical applications for students, contributing to the development of their research and exploration skills in the field of earth sciences.
