MUSCAT – The Ministry of Social Development held a meeting to study the progress made in a project to establish “Integrated Early Childhood Development Centres”.
The project aims to provide early childhood services within specific geographical locations in an integrated manner through cooperation among the sectors concerned. It focuses on means of improving health and educational services offered to children in accordance with internationally approved standards and methodologies.
The project covers measures of raising public awareness about the importance of early childhood development, the application of concepts of early intervention and the consolidation of different types of intelligence in early childhood.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s premises in Muscat, was chaired by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development.
The project is the outcome of cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and partner institutions in Oman, including the ministries of Education, Health, Finance, Labour, Housing and Urban Planning, in addition to Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and Oman Energy Association (OPAL). The project seeks to expand the segment of beneficiaries of its services, to ensure support to all children, notably children belonging to families with limited income in different governorates of Oman.
