State Council, Shura Council hold joint session to resolve disputed articles in draft laws

MUSCAT – The State Council and the Shura Council today held a session during which they discussed reports field by their respective committees on articles of dispute.


The disputed articles figured in draft bills of “Bank Deposits Protection Law”, “The Law Regulating Trade in Wildlife” and “The Media Law.”


The joint session was held in implementation of Article (49) of the Law of the Council of Oman, said Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council.


Khalid Ahmed Al Saadi, Secretary-General of the State Council, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the “Joint Committee” (comprising members from both councils) reached full consensus about the draft bill of the “Bank Deposits Protection Law”, with 11 articles passed in one go, without objection by either council. He added that the members of the two councils voted ‘for’ the opinion of the Joint Committee on the draft bill of “The Law Regulating Trade in Wildlife” by a rate of 90 percent.


As for the draft bill on “The Media Law”, areas of dispute were cleared and the two sides reached 100 percent consensus ‘for’ the opinion of the Joint Committee, Al Saadi affirmed.

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that, during the session, the two councils’ Joint Committee discussed the articles of dispute and reached consensus about them, after the members of the two councils elaborated on them and took vote accordingly.
