MUSCAT – Ooredoo recently inaugurated the revamped Souq Al Hareem (the Women’s Market) in Jabal Shams to support local vendors. The initiative is a collaboration with the Wali of Hamra and Hamra’s Municipality.
The revamped Souq Al Hareem and the adjacent ‘Waleed’ coffee booth support entrepreneurial families in the area. The initiative to revamp the market was launched during the Holy Month of Ramadan 2023 when teams representing Goodwill, Ooredoo’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, visited the Jabal Shams area during their 19th annual cross-country Journey. It is considered one of the company’s most impactful and sustainable community-based initiatives.
The inauguration was held in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Suleiman bin Saeed Al-Azri, Wali of Al Hamra.. The event also involved other stakeholders from the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. Committed to supporting women’s empowerment, Ooredoo also announced the winner of a contest held for the Omani Women’s Associations. The Association in the Wilayat of Nakhal won the prize for transforming palm fronds into handmade paper.
Ooredoo’s Goodwill programme covers a wide range of CSR initiatives to make a difference in the community. Over ten thousand Omani women have benefitted from several initiatives, including Ooredoo’s women-dedicated incubators; learning hubs set up to support women in setting up their own businesses. Through its CSR initiatives, Ooredoo is a catalyst for building a supportive ecosystem and empowering Omani people with skills, visibility, and a network, with a long-term view to boosting the economy and supporting Vision 2040.
