MUSCAT — Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has occupied 8th place among Arab universities in the QS University Rankings 2026. This was unveiled during closing ceremony of the QS Arab Forum 2025 hosted by the SQU this evening. The SQU hosted this forum for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was attended by higher education experts, heads and vice-chancellors of Arab universities, academics, researchers and decision-makers in the field of higher education.

As many as 298 Arab universities were registered in the QS rankings this year, including 82 new universities, in addition to 11 Omani academic institutions (among them four are new). The QS Arab Forum focused on presenting the outcome of the QS Arab Rankings 2026. It also looked into the best practices and challenges facing the higher education sector in the region, through panel discussions and specialized workshops. The forum covered various aspects and addressed key themes, including academic innovation, educational quality, international partnerships, scholarly research and academic reputation. It also highlighted emerging trends like hybrid learning and the use of technology in higher education.

The conference provided participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences with their counterparts from academic institutions, explore mechanisms for developing academic and administrative performance and build new partnerships that would contribute to raising the global standing of Arab universities.
