EXCERPTS:
Women’s Day generally brings forth many thoughts: women’s equality/gender parity; women’s rights and the foremost need to break the bias (against women). Here, in Oman, could we say that it is more than just celebrating womanhood; here it is celebrating the success (various types of success, not just the monetary kind) of Omani women and also the unique integration between the two genders, who are working together to achieve a better future for Oman? Your thoughts on this.
The celebration of Omani Women’s Day goes beyond being an annual occasion; it highlights the achievements of Omani women and celebrates the progress they have made in various fields. We are witnessing significant collaboration between the genders, as men and women work together to achieve the common national goals of Oman Vision 2024, reflecting the strength of social and economic integration.
How would you view the growth and advancement of Omani women in the last many years? What would you like to say about that?
In recent years, Omani women have made significant progress. They have entered fields that were traditionally considered male-dominated, such as politics, mechanics, petroleum, and electricity. Women now hold leadership positions in both the government and the private sector, reflecting the development of Omani society toward greater equality.
Also, with regards to the advancement, would you say that today Omani women are on par with other women of the world? If not, what more should be done?
I believe that Omani women today have made significant progress; however, we must continue to work on raising awareness and enhancing support for other women. It is important to ensure that Omani women are able to compete with any woman in the world by providing appropriate educational and professional opportunities and promoting a culture of empowerment and equality. Through collective efforts and the activation of supportive policies, we can create an environment that enables women to achieve their aspirations and accomplish even more. This also requires the support of men, who play a crucial role in promoting women’s rights and contributing to gender equality in society.
