
AL-ULA – Represented by the Ministry of Finance, the Sultanate of Oman took part in the opening of a two-day event titled “Al Ula Conference for Emerging Market Economies”, which began in Al-Ula city of Saudi Arabia. The meeting seeks to discuss global trends and potential impacts on emerging and developing economies.
The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation at the event was led by Mahmoud Abdullah Al Oweini, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance. The conference reviews the challenges facing economies like weak growth, coupled with high financing needs and high levels of public debt. It looks into means of achieving financial balance and managing sovereign debt through innovative solutions, to help enhance financial sustainability. The meeting also underlines the role of modern technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting economic development, raising competitiveness and exploring opportunities to boost the competitiveness of emerging market economies.

The conference is envisaged to advance cooperation towards addressing global and regional economic challenges posed to participating countries, besides elaborating on the role of the private sector in leading economic growth and achieving sustainable development.
The conference is attended by finance ministers, governors of central banks, policy makers from emerging and developing economies, experts from international institutions and academic experts.
