MUSCAT – National University recently announced the soft-launch of the National Rehabilitation House. This initiative aligns with Oman’s commitment to developing an inclusive and advanced healthcare sector, ensuring accessible, high-quality rehabilitation services for those in need. The centre, established under the National University of Science and Technology (NU), reflects national efforts to enhance medical rehabilitation and patient care.

Dr Ali Saud Al Bimani, Vice Chancellor of NU, emphasised the significance of this initiative, stating: “The soft-launch of the National Rehabilitation House underlines NU’s commitment to community service. It represents hope, resilience, and the promise of recovery for countless individuals and families across Oman.”

The centre is expected to meet Oman’s growing demand for specialised, integrated rehabilitation services. With a rise in injuries, strokes, neurological conditions, and chronic illnesses, the need for a dedicated rehabilitation facility has become increasingly urgent. This centre bridges the gap by complementing existing healthcare services, offering a multidisciplinary approach and utilising advanced rehabilitation technologies to improve patient outcome. The centre’s infrastructure prioritises comfort, privacy, and cultural sensitivity, offering separate treatment wings for male and female patients, thus fostering an environment of dignity and respect. The National Rehabilitation House provides multidisciplinary rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy, offering personalised treatment plans to maximise recovery outcomes.

Physiotherapy focuses on restoring function, reducing pain, and enhancing mobility for individuals recovering from surgery, injury, or chronic conditions, with advanced rehabilitation technology further improving therapeutic success. Occupational Therapy empowers individuals of all ages by enhancing their ability to perform daily activities independently, supporting both adults recovering from injuries and children with developmental challenges.

Meanwhile, Speech and Language Therapy is dedicated to improving speech, language, and cognitive-communication skills, addressing swallowing disorders and speech impairments, while ensuring a holistic rehabilitation journey through close collaboration with families and carers.

“Rehabilitation goes beyond healing the body; it restores hope, dignity, and the ability to live life to the fullest. Whether helping a child take their first steps, supporting an elderly patient in regaining independence, or guiding a stroke survivor through recovery, the National Rehabilitation House is committed to compassionate, cutting-edge care,” explained Dr Mubarak Pasha, Deputy Vice Chancellor, NU.

Beyond offering quality patient care, the National Rehabilitation House is dedicated to continuous innovation and professional development. The centre ensures that its staff, including highly qualified and experienced rehabilitation professionals, remain at the forefront of scientific advancements through ongoing training and research-driven practices. This elevates the standard of care and also ensures that patients receive treatment based on the latest evidence-based methodologies.

“This philosophy transcends beyond treatment protocols. The centre is committed to continuous professional development and remains at the forefront of scientific advancements. This elevates the quality of care and ensures that patients benefit from evidence-based practices that are aligned with the latest global standards,” added Dr Samiya Al Raisi, Director, National Rehabilitation House.
