SALALAH – The Khareef Dhofar Championship for Traditional Weapons Shooting commenced recently at the shooting ground of the Command of the Sultan’s Armed Forces in Raysut, Salalah. Organised by Dhofar Municipality as part of the accompanying events of the Khareef (monsoon) season, the championship will continue until August 29.

The competition features over 1,900 participants from various age categories competing in multiple shooting events included in the championship program.

The championship comprises six main competitions, most notably skeet target and heavy rifle target events, heavy rifle plate shooting, skeet plate shooting, along with a challenge cup competition.

This year introduces a new category – “heavy rifle targets with telescopic sights” – as part of efforts to broaden participation and enhance the competitive atmosphere.

The championship reflects Dhofar Municipality’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural heritage and highlight traditional weapons shooting sports, which enjoy widespread interest and participation across various segments of society.
