SALALAH – As part of its keenness on highlighting the Sultanate of Oman’s economic and tourism projects, investment opportunities and rich cultural heritage, the Ministry of Information hosted a number of international media personnel currently visiting the Governorate of Dhofar.

The programme, which lasts from August2 to 20, 2024, seeks to attract larger numbers of tourists from Europe, North America, Africa and East Asia.

Sheikha Ahmed Al Mahrouqi, Acting Director General of External Media, said that the programme to host international media professionals in the Dhofar Khareef season 2024, consolidates Oman’s presence in the global cultural and tourism arena.

The gathering was attended by representatives from prestigious international media institutions, including Reuters, the Foreign Journalist Association, National Geographic magazine, Chinese TV, Turkish TV, and other media institutions in Italy, Spain, Belgium and Australia, Sheikha added. She added that the media personnel form two groups that will visit tourist areas, cultural, historical and archaeological sites in Dhofar Governorate, including the ancient city of Samharam, Khor Rori, the Land of Frankincense Museum and Wadi Dokah. The tours will also cover economic areas like Salalah Port and Salalah Free Zone.

The visit, which coincides with different events like the Khareef Dhofar Season 2024 (Dhofar Monsoon 2024), will provide an opportunity to showcase Omani culture and countryside lifestyles.

National Geographic photographer David Rolle said, “Dhofar Governorate, which welcomed us with autumn drizzle and fog, boasts a wide range of natural diversity features, right from dense formations of frankincense trees in Wadi Dawkah to the magnificent Al Mughsyail Beach.” Rolle, who described his visit as “wonderful”, toured Al Fazayeh Beach in the Wilayat of Rakhyout (famous for its pristine beaches and crystal clear seawater), Wadi Darbat valley (with its breath-taking waterfalls and velvet green landscape) and Al Hafa Market (which exudes the fragrance of frankincense). Rolle went all the way to the memorial of the Chinese navigator Zheng He and later toured the archaeological sites in Samharam and Al Baleed (which depict the ancient history of Dhofar Governorate and its people).

|Max Stanton, an e-content creator, said, “This is my first visit to Dhofar Governorate in the autumn season where natural scenery comes to life amid wet weather and moderate temperatures. This encourages tourists to engage in different activities like adventure tourism, treks to centuries-old heritage sites and trips to cultural landmarks and traditional industries’ houses.”
