MUSCAT – The skies of the Sultanate of Oman will on Thursday December 14, see the peak of a Geminid meteor shower, named after its source constellation “Gemini”.
The spectacle will grow in full bloom on the night of Wednesday December 13, till the dawn of Thursday December 14, 2023.
Ibrahim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Astronomical Society, explained that the month of December will see more astronomical showers.
The month of December is the best time of the year to watch celestial wonders due to the fact that the meteors meet dark nights devoid of moonlight, Al Mahrouqi added.
He noted that astronomical calculations indicate that the forthcoming meteor shower will thus form fireballs, an eye-catching scene in Oman skies and elsewhere in the world during this time of the year.
