Competition to design monument depicting Sur as Arab Tourism Capital 2024

SUR – The Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah today announced a competition to design a monument that documents Sur as Arab Tourism Capital 2024. The contest is open for Omani youths specialized in architecture, design, modern arts, urban planning and civil engineering, as well as those who possess the skills needed for the topic of the competition.


Dr Yahya Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, said that the announcement of the competition affirms the governorate’s keenness on encouraging innovation and creativity among young people.

He added that the selection of “Sur as Arab Tourism Capital” inspires the implementation of more projects and initiatives to develop the tourism sector.


Al Maawali pointed out that the competition’s supervising committee prepared a technical guide comprising the terms to be met when designing the monument. In the first round, the names of 10 participants will be announced as qualifiers to the second round in which the jury would assess the projects, said Al Ma’awali. After that, the top three competitors would be felicitated as winners of the competition, he added.
