MUSCAT — The Sultanate of Oman is joining the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, which falls on 8 March every year. This year, the event takes the theme “Rights. Justice. Work. For all Women and Girls”.
The Sultanate of Oman accords great attention to women, considering them as active partners in the process of development. Women in Oman enjoy the support and patronage of His Majesty Haitham bin Tarik, as they impart their energies and competencies in different fields of national action.
Omani women enjoy extensive rights, and this enables them to access many leadership positions in government and private sectors and in civil society institutions. They also proved their mettle as active partners in building society.
The Sultanate of Oman has made many arrangements to promote women’s rights and participation in the national building process, through a legal system that guarantees equality and non-discrimination, as evidenced by the Basic Law of the State stipulates that equality be applied for both women and men in rights, duties, candidacy and voting.
In the context of promoting and empowering women’s rights, the Sultanate of Oman signed the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women under Royal Decree No. 42/2005.
