Oman to host two international billiards, snooker championships

MUSCAT — The Sultanate of Oman is set to host two international championships in billiards and snooker from January 14-18, featuring 125 players from 18 countries. These events are part of the ongoing Muscat Nights 2026 festivities.

The Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee announced the details of the two tournaments during a press conference held in cooperation with the Muscat Nights management at the “Active Oman” hall within Oman Automobile Association.

Khaled Khalfan Al Sobhi, Chairman of the Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee, stated that hosting these championships underscores the growing international presence of these sports in Oman and the global confidence in Oman’s organisational standards and technical reputation.

The tournaments will be conducted according to the regulations of the International Federation. The Snooker Championship is to be played in the 15-ball format, while the Billiards Championship is to be played in the 10-ball format.These formats ensure a high level of competition and equal opportunities for all participants to showcase their skills.

Hussein Said Al Rumhi, supervisor of the Beach Events Committee for “Muscat Nights,” explained that hosting these championships is part of diversifying the sporting activities accompanying the program. He emphasised that such events support sports tourism, stimulate economic activity, and solidify Muscat’s position as a destination for international tournaments during peak tourist seasons.
