
MUSCAT – Recently five top class artistes from Uttarakhand came and conquered the hearts and souls of more than 200 music loving audience in Muscat. They made the audience sing and dance to their lively native tunes.
A lively atmosphere marked a gala cultural evening, hosted by the Indian Social Club’s Uttaranchal Wing who is also celebrating this year as their 19th year of existence with the ISC. The excitement and enthusiasm among the artists, audience and organisers was incredibly enormous as the event was being held after a gap of few years. The event was supported by Asian construction, Al Arkan construction and other well-wishers.
The evening began with beautiful Pahadi hymns of Saurav Maithani, very talented singer, composer and lyricist, who also came up with peppy numbers like Meri pyari Nirmala, Dhol-Damo ki thaap, Main Pahadon ka Rahivasi etc. It was soon followed by a series of popular songs by Meghna Chandra a prominent singer from the region. Ko Che Tu Ghasiyari, Hilma chandi ku batana etc brought out the love and the longing for the beloved.
Then came the most awaited performance by Inder Arya, he is not only a renowned singer but also a prominent figure in the music industry of the region, who presented the songs which have been creating new records, songs like of Gulabi Sharara, Sawri Sawri having record breaking viewership and creation of reels videos records. The scene was filled with soul touching rendition in the Hotel Muscat Holiday’s ball room, when the audience started getting gripped by the melodious atmosphere and foot tapping music. The singers were well aided by Deepak Rawat on Key Board, Joginder Singh (Monti) on percussion and Abhijeet on pads.
Pradeep Kumar, 1st Secretary and Head of Chancery at the Embassy of India in Oman, Chief Guest of the event, was seen captivated by the soulful music and relishing with rapt attention. In his address he commended Govind Negi, the convener, and other members of the committee of the Uttaranchal Wing Muscat, for having carried out various events of cultural interest for the community in Oman during the 19 years of their existence as a wing of Indian Social Club Oman.
Babu Rajendran, Chairman of the Indian Social Club- Oman, Guest of Honor of the event, being a music lover, himself also found relishing the performance, he also praised the wing for bringing in musical treat for the community.
The energetic foot tapping from the youth in the hall and the excitement continued as Meghna, Inder and Saurav once again took the stage and rendered duets and medley songs to end the musically mesmerising evening with series of popular folk songs like ‘Bedu Pako Bara Masa’, describing the richness of the region’s aesthetic beauty delightfully.
Govind Negi, Convener of the Uttaranchal wing, in his speech described the contribution of the wing, thanked all the artists, the members, all the sponsors for their generous support, the team of organizing committee including volunteers without whose hard work the event would not have been such successful and lastly the parent body of Indian Social Club.
The event concluded with Shiv Bahuguna, Co-convener, extending a formal vote of thanks. Indeed, the evening made many among the audience nostalgic or it could be said that for a small community from Uttarakhand here, it was a sort of homecoming.
