MUASCAT – Represented by its Ophthalmology Centre, the Medical City for Military and Security Services is organising the 20th edition of the joint international conference on ophthalmology, surgery and scientific research.
The conference, which began in Muscat Governorate today, will last for three days. It is being held in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), Middle East Optometry Association, Oman Medical Association, Oman Ophthalmological Society and the International Keratoconus Society.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, and attended by Eng. Uday Hilal Al Maawali, Head of the Medical City for Military and Security Services. During the ceremony, the minister honoured a number of physicians who assumed effective roles in serving humanity in the field of ophthalmology. He also toured an exhibition organised on the sidelines of the conference by specialised government and private institutions from Oman and abroad. The conference programme includes lectures, visual presentations, research papers, workshops and dialogue sessions, in addition to training courses at the ophthalmic surgical simulation laboratory. Live broadcasts of surgical operations are being presented by a group of experts and specialists.
The conference showcases educational experiences in treating eye diseases and samples of the most prominent findings on modern medicine, notably on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in treating corneal diseases, retinal diseases, paediatric diseases, cataracts and telemedicine surgery.
